Do You Want to Motorcycle Camp In the Himalayas? Now's Your Chance With Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield announced its inaugural Himalayan Base Camp adventure, and registration is already open.
Instead of hosting a traditional festival or event celebrating the brand and its offerings, Royal Enfield has set out to do something different for 2026.
The Himalayan Base Camp - Ladakh Edition is intended to be a convergence of riders, climbers, overlanders, and explorers, gathered together for three days of curated expeditions, skill-based workshops, expert-led sessions and hands-on challenges. And it's going to be something special, as basecamp will be at 11,480 feet in Leh, Ladakh, an Indian-administered city in the Kashmir region - the northernmost part of the Indian subcontinent.
Scheduled to take place from September 4–6, 2026, Royal Enfield says it is returning “to its spiritual ground to curate something that belongs to this terrain by moving beyond the handlebars, and building a sanctuary for the Adventure mindset.”
With the Himalayan Base Camp, Enfield hopes to host the largest migration of adventure seekers in what Mohit Dhar Jayal, Chief Brand Officer, says is “a rendezvous point for all adventurers, regardless of whether they are driven by horsepower, willpower or their own two feet.”
According to the website, there will be hiking, kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, bouldering and a list of other activities available, along with a navigation challenge that will send participants deep into the mountains to track down hidden GPS coordinates. ADV rider training will also be available, as well as a challenge course where riders can test their skills on an adventure motorcycle.
Honestly, there’s so many activities listed that I’m not sure you could fit them all in over the three days you’d spend in Leh, Ladakh. But maybe that’s the idea? A choose your own adventure for eager travelers looking to explore a place they would likely not visit otherwise.
So, how do you get there?
Royal Enfield has provided a list of dealerships throughout the region that will rent you a bike, with prices ranging from ₹10,000 ($105 USD) to ₹60,000 ($630 USD), depending on the distance you plan to travel to get to the Himalayan Base Camp, and what kind of motorcycle you’d like to ride.
Entry to the event itself will set you back ₹1,499 ($15 USD), and registration opened on May 1. What’s not clear are the kind of accommodations that will be available, or whether everyone is expected to camp. Food will be available for purchase on site, though, and both washrooms and free water stations will be provided, among other things.
Need an excuse to ride a motorcycle in the Himalayan Mountains? Here’s your chance.
