Next to the legendary Hayabusa, the Suzuki GSXR is one of Suzuki’s most extreme models. The entry-level Gixxer has for a long time been the default sportbike; the one all the cool kids get on when they want a proper little crotch rocket. The GSX-R1000R was introduced as a slightly more dramatic option fitted with track-inspired techs. Looks like the extra “R” wasn’t quite enough, Suzuki is adding yet another one, this time for Ryuyo.
Suzuki will release 20 limited-edition GSX-R1000R Ryuyo, tagged the fastest production Gixxer ever made. The name is inspired by Suzuki’s Ryuyo research and development center where all new Suzukis get a test run.
What the Gixxer Ryuyo gets you is a 209-horsepower, 370-pound beast that pushes the limits of the four-cylinder, 998cc engine. The Ryuyo limited edition gets you a flight of fancy, performance-oriented features, including SBK Ohlins fork and coil spring suspension, Brembo brake pads and rotors, carbon airbox conducts, a set of Dunlop Sportmax KR109 tires, MotoGP-inspired handlebar, a brake lever guard, a neoprene saddle, and much more.
The bike’s entire fairing is made of carbon fiber and the shield, of plexiglass, which has contributed to the model’s massive 78-lb weight loss, down from 448lb for the standard GSX-R1000R.
The Suzuki GSX-R1000R Ryuyo will take the 2018 EICMA stage in November, just before preorders are scheduled to open, on November 10. The model will set you back €29,990 (roughly US$35,000). Anybody interested in purchasing the model will have to add some extra freight and delivery fees to the cost since the 20 exclusive units are unique to Suzuki Italia, and will be built in Italy. After having spent $35k, what’s a few extra grands to get your hands on the super-limited, lethal edition of one of the world’s most popular sportbike?
