YouTube is a treasure trove of pretty amazing stuff. We're lucky to live in a time when riders from all over the world have the tools and the platform to share their adventures. At RideApart, we love to hear those stories and we thought we would share them with you so you too can discover someone new and really awesome.
This week, our Rocking Rider has a well-rounded channel. Daniel aka DanDan the Fireman is a YouTube vlogger, an author, and an online educator whose main purpose on the Web is to share knowledge and advice and make the road a safer place for riders.
He has notably published two short books that are free to download on his website. One is a free beginner’s guide to riding and the other explains everything a new rider needs to know about the motorcycle helmet. He has three more essays coming up about gear, riding with a passenger, and what to do in case of an accident.
His mission to inform people is also reflected in his YouTube videos. He has been active on his channel since 2006 and claims to have published over 500 videos since. He blends different styles of videos, between live feeds during which he interacts with his audience, and edited content. From road safety and hazards, maintenance tips, to camping on two wheels advice, to how gear works, or how not to crash, Daniel touches on a wide array of subjects in an easy-to-watch format.
The one recurring topic in some of Daniel’s videos that caught my attention is mental health for men, a subject that remains a little taboo in this day and age. He opens up about his own challenges in the hopes of informing people and encourage those who suffer to reach out and get the help they need. That aspect of his account is the one that appealed to me the most as we seldom hear someone speak so openly about mental health.
We are often quick to judge others on their behavior on and off the road. How many times have we pointed a finger at someone who has made a riding mistake? Pointing the error out doesn’t solve the issue and I like Dan’s approach to want to teach and inform new and seasoned riders on a variety of subjects. As he writes on his website: Let’s save some lives!
