You all ever hear of a non-profit called Backcountry Discovery Routes? Apparently its a group out west dedicated to preserving and promoting off-road motorcycling tourism. Sounds great, right? According to the org's website, Backcountry Discovery Routes is:
"Powered by volunteers, the Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) is a 501c (4) non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Through education, advocacy and promotion of responsible motorcycle travel, BDR works to preserve backcountry motorcycling tourism for generations to come.
The organization works with land managers and agencies responsible for public land, to keep trails and remote roads open for motorcycling. BDR delivers resources to the motorcycle community, including a high-quality waterproof map, a feature-length documentary film and free downloadable GPS tracks. The team has created routes in Washington, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Mid Atlantic and soon to be released Southern California. Informational videos, planning resources, and route conditions are available to the public."
So they're doing the lord's work out there, it sounds like. Thing is, just like any non-profit org, BDR lives and dies by donations and memberships. So, to raise a little money and a little awareness, BDR has teamed up with ADV powerhouse KTM to raffle off a BRD special edition 1090 Adventure R.
