Honda CBR600RR Owners, Here's Your Heads Up About An Oil Starvation Recall
If you ride a 2024 through 2026 CBR600RR, you should know about a manufacturing defect involving the engine block cylinder surface.
Do you own a 2024 through 2026 Honda CBR600RR? If there's one sitting in your garage or at the curb out front and it's yours, then you'll want to know about the new safety recall report that American Honda Motor Co just filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue? Possibly excessive oil consumption could result from a manufacturing defect with the engine block cylinder surface, which could potentially lead the connecting rod bearings to completely seize if starved of oil. This could, in turn, cause the rear wheel to lock up, and/or possibly cause engine oil to come in contact with your exhaust system. This could, in turn, increase the risk of a fire, crash, and/or injury.
Approximately 1,253 motorcycles are believed to be involved in this recall, according to Honda's manufacturing records. As for any possible warnings or signs that something is amiss, Honda advises that owners could note a low engine oil level or possibly increased oil consumption when performing the recommended routine inspections.
American Honda notified its dealer network about this recall on or about December 12, 2025. At the present, Honda has not yet announced its plans for a recall service, though those will be coming soon. Owner notification for all registered owners of affected CBR600RRs should begin around February 16, 2026.
Please note, this is the first of two planned notifications; it will only notify owners that the problem exists in the first place. A second notification is planned to go out in or around July 2026 to advise owners about the recall repair service to rectify the problem. While Honda is currently developing its plan for the recall repair, it says that it will perform the service free of charge to customers once it is available.
Honda's number for this recall is KT5. Owners may contact American Honda's customer service hotline at 1-866-784-1870. Additionally, owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171) or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
