Mysterious Customer Commissions Gold MV Agusta
We suspect that he loves only gold.
If the role of art is to provoke an emotional response, good or bad—then MV Agusta has certainly succeeded. Commissioned by an individual referred to only as “special customer” on MV’s website, this Dragster 800 RC is a one-off, in a finish called Shining Gold. Do you love it or do you hate it? I’m sure there will be a wide range of opinions on this finish.
No matter how you feel about the end result, you absolutely can’t fault the craftsmanship. The design utilizes Ergal, which is a type of aluminum alloy that is “typically used when exceptional mechanical robustness and lightness are required,” according to industrial manufacturer Gasparini. Naturally, carbon fiber is also involved.
The gleaming, glistening finished product also comes complete with an SC Project Reparto Corse exhaust, as well as an X-lite X-803 Ultra Carbon helmet with a Shining Gold livery that complements the bike. Where other limited editions might list, say, a number X out of 100, this one proudly proclaims that it is “unique model 001/001” on the tank, and also again on a small plaque on the top triple just below the instrument cluster. A special bike cover also comes with this model, emblazoned with the words “1-Off” just ahead of the MV Agusta Dragster 800 RC logo.

The photos of that beautifully stitched saddle are so crisp, you can almost smell the leather through your screen. Please also spare a thought for the lonely Bond villain who is sitting on an island somewhere, and who probably got his wings upon full assembly of this bike. Was he the one who ordered this bike? We’ll probably never know, just like we’ll never know for sure whether it was purchased to actually be ridden or solely as a museum-quality display piece.
It’s also probably a completely different experience to see in person—no matter how these photos make you feel. Mirror finishes always tend to look different in photos than in real life. I’ll just keep telling myself that.
