Not amazed yet? Well, consider this: This beast was not produced by just any motor manufacturer; it was actually designed by Yamaha. Yes, Yamaha, the company known  for motorcycles and musical instruments, designed the early base for this engine for Volvo in 2005. It's now evident that not only prominent vehicle manufacturers can design a fine base engine.

If you’re a hardcore Volvo fan, then you’re a dork, but you’re probably also aware of the fact that this is far from the first V8 Yamaha has helped produce for Volvo. The race engine seen in the video above shares parts with the V8 Volvo once used in its XC90SUV and S80 sedan.

The engine is an all-aluminum 60-degree (which greatly helps to the unique sound) V-angle, with a 7,500 rpm redline. Polestar helped to turn the engines into racing thoroughbreds for the Australian V8 Supercar series. According to Car and Driver, Polestar has bored the engines from a mere 4.4 liters to 5.0 liters, and it now makes a striking 650 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.
