This ADV Scooter Comes Packed With Features And Is Under $2,000. We'll Never See It

Who says practical can't also be stylish at the same time? No, this isn't about Vespa this time; it's about a scooter with a completely different take on styling philosophy. Friends, this is the Wuyang Honda HooRide 125 (HRD 125 if you're nasty), and it takes styling cues from its much-bigger cousin, the Africa Twin.

More than that, though, what I want to talk about is the features this little beauty comes packed with. There are multiple variants, but all come with an underseat storage area that can fit two jet helmets, ABS, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system (!), a 5-inch TFT dash with smartphone connectivity, a two-position adjustable windscreen, and one more thing that's so cool, every scooter needs to do it. The really neat part is, it's so simple! Here, let me show you.

See that bar? That's a nice, exposed bit of handlebar that isn't covered by the typical plastics that most scooters have going all the way across the top. Now, to be fair, the Honda ADV160 has a fully exposed handlebar, which makes it much easier for you to install mounts for things like your smartphone or GPS. But it's practically unheard of on a little 125 like this, and not super common on a lot of other scooters of other displacement sizes, either.

The HooRide 125 also has a handy little bag hanger, a water bottle cubby, and a phone cubby with ports for both your USB-A and USB-C cable to connect. So if you want, you can just keep the phone tucked away in the cubby and charging, or you can easily route a charging cable up to a phone mount clamped on that little bar instead. Easy peasy!

Ultramodern LED lighting graces both front and rear, and the pillion seat gets both armrests and a backrest bar integrated into the design (which can also function as a grab rail). Or you can opt for one of the variants that comes with a capacious top box and the rack to mount it behind the pillion seat instead; it's really up to you. The flat floor offers space for both your feet and a bag, if you need even more space to secure something on your daily errands, or if you're planning a trip on your HRD.

You can use your smartphone as your key with Honda SmartKey, or use an NFC card to turn the scooter on if you prefer. Plus, thanks to a new partnership with DJI, it comes prepared for you to mount certain DJI action cameras (yet another potential use for that exposed handlebar) and start recording with the press of a dedicated button on the left handlebar. No extra camera fumbling necessary!

So, what's this little guy gonna cost you? If you're in China, you can buy it starting at 12,980 RMB, which is equivalent to about US $1,916.50 at the time of writing. That's for the base model, which doesn't come with a top box or cool colors. The priciest version tops out at 15,380 RMB, or about US $2,271, which is a pretty slick matte olive green color with yellow accents and a top box and rack

Would you rock the HRD 125 if you had the chance? I totally would; I already love the ADV160, so I'd be just as keen to try its smaller cousin as I would the X-ADV, if given the opportunity.
