$3 Million Was Just Seized by German Police From Local Hells Angels After Massive Raids

German Police just conducted large-scale raids on the Hells Angels, which involved 1,200 officers and 50 premises, resulting in $3 million seized.

'Hells Angels' and 'Germany' are two nouns that you don't usually hear in the same sentence, so imagine my surprise when I heard that a large-scale police operation targeting the biker gang resulted in the seizure of €2.5 million, or nearly $3 million, of cash and motorcycles. That's a hell of a lot of cash, but when you learn the sheer size of the operation, it's almost surprising the police didn't seize more.

In the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 1,200 police officers were deployed across 28 cities in what the ministry describes as one of the largest operations to combat motorcycle gang crime in Germany's history. The officers and Special Forces searched more than 50 homes and business premises belonging to members and supporters of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Leverkusen in the early hours of the morning on April 28. Motorcycles and cash were confiscated, among other things.

The raids were based on the results of ongoing investigations with suspects accused, among other things, of forming a criminal organization. As a result, the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Leverkusen was banned and dissolved. Based on the rate of growth the club has experienced recently, it appears that its dissolution couldn't have come sooner.

As the newspaper Neue Westfälische reported recently, the Hells Angels had 29 chapters and 469 members in North Rhine-Westphalia, but those numbers had been on the rise considerably. In recent times, many members defected from a rival gang named 'Bandidos', which made the Hells Angels the largest biker gang in the West German state, narrowly edging the 'Freeway Riders', which has 403 members in 37 chapters.

Reporting on large-scale raids on the Hells Angels in a West German state that resulted in millions seized was not on my 2026 bingo card. But after learning how prevalent motorcycle gang culture is there, it won't catch me by surprise again.
