Check Out These Special Edition BMW F 900 Motorcycles That You Can't Have
BMW Motorrad France rolls out F 900 XR Aurelius Green and F 900 R Frozen Grey special editions, and neither model is available in the US market.
BMW Motorrad France has just revealed two France-only specials: the BMW F 900 XR in Aurelius Green and the BMW F 900 R in Frozen Grey. And once again, the rest of the world is left watching from the sidelines.
In case you haven't noticed, France keeps getting these clean, factory-backed color editions that never make it to the US and other parts of the world. Granted, these machines receive no engine upgrades, no suspension overhaul, and no additional tech. But what they do get are sharp, curated finishes that instantly elevate the visual appeal of the bike. And somehow that makes it more annoying, because it would be so easy to sell them globally.
And so while the rest of us are green with envy, the France-exclusive F 900 XR Aurelius Green gets a deep metallic shade typically associated with BMW’s M lineup, including the BMW M 1000 XR. It gives the sport tourer a more premium, almost halo-adjacent presence. France pairs the paint with matching details like a painted engine spoiler and a high-tinted windscreen so it feels cohesive straight from the factory.
Underneath, it’s the same 895cc parallel twin pushing about 105 horsepower at 8,500rpm and 68 pound-feet of torque at 6,500rpm. Top speed is north of 120 miles per hour. Seat height sits at 32.5 inches. Suspension travel remains 170mm front and rear. Mechanically unchanged. Visually transformed.
Then there’s the F 900 R Frozen Grey. Same engine, same output, same core hardware. But the muted grey finish gives the naked bike a stealthier, more aggressive tone compared to the usual US colorways. It looks like something pulled straight from BMW’s automotive playbook, which is exactly the point.
From a strategy perspective, this is smart. Paint and trim cost far less than developing new hardware. Regional teams get to spark local excitement without reengineering the bike. But for the rest of us, it raises a simple question. If the platform already meets regulations and the changes are cosmetic, why not just offer the same editions in other parts of the world too?
For now, Aurelius Green and Frozen Grey are French exclusives. And buyers from other parts of the world who want that factory look will have to recreate it the hard way: by visiting their local paint shop and having their bikes worked on for a couple of days.
