New Ducati Ebike Is Great, According To SBK Champ Troy Bayliss

Being bike-fit means different things to different people. No one takes it more seriously than racers, who are frequently out riding serious bicycles when they’re off their motorbikes. Recently, three-time SBK world champion and all-around legend Troy Bayliss took the Ducati MIG-RR out for a spin—and he liked how it performed.

It’s what Ducati calls an “Enduro e-mtb,” or electric mountain bike. It features the Shimano Steps E8000 unit as its beating, motorized heart, which offers electric assistance to your ride in three levels: Eco, Trail, and Boost. There’s also a power-walk mode, and an available app for your phone that allows further customization. 

First unveiled at EICMA 2018, the bike came about as a collaboration between Ducati and Thok, which specializes in pedal-assist bicycles. This particular bike was designed by Aldo Drudi and the Ducati Design Center, and features an exclusive livery not found elsewhere. It’s currently only available through Ducati dealers in Europe, and that design will cost you a pretty €6,250 (that’s $7,106 USD). However, if you’re lucky enough to race professionally for Ducati, you may get one as a training perk, like Ducati MotoGP riders Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci recently did.

If you’re in Europe and your local Ducati dealer has the e-bike in stock, the good news is that you can schedule a test ride. Should you be interested, you can go to their dedicated website and schedule yours today. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Ducati experience without a plethora of accessories for your new bike, which range from tools to water bottles to assorted bolt-on bits to make your ride that much better. 

So far, even people who aren’t professional motorcycle racers are enjoying this collaboration. Top shelf componentry and an appropriate geometry for the intended riding experience coupled with beautiful fit and finish make for a combination that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. Currently, there’s no word on when or if this will make it to the US, but as always, the e-mtb enthusiasts on these shores can admire it from afar. Will what they’ve learned throughout this collaboration eventually inform a true Ducati electric motorcycle? Only time will tell.
