Can-Am Outlander Pro and Max Pro ATVs Recalled Over Potentially Deadly Malfunction

Can-Am parent company Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) is recalling a range of Can-Am Outlander 500 Pro and 700 Pro and Max Pro ATVs across four model years: 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. The reason relates to an issue with Speed Limiter Mode software which may be slightly different depending on the model year involved, but can in all cases potentially cause sudden, unexpected acceleration. This could, in turn, pose a crash hazard, as well as a serious risk of injury and/or death.

BRP issued this recall in the US as a Fast Track Recall through the US Consumer Product Safety Commission on May 14, 2026. Approximately 2,820 units are believed to be involved. The recall includes both 2025 and 2026 Outlander 500/700 Pro and Max Pro units equipped with Speed Limiter Mode, as well as 2023 and 2024 Outlander Pro and Max Pro units that have Speed Limiter Mode and also received an ECM software update through their local BRP dealership on or after February 3, 2026.

At the time of writing, BRP says it has only received a single field report of a speed limiter failure on one of these units. The rider experienced sudden, unexpected acceleration that flipped the ATV, causing scrapes and bruises. No mention was made of any further injury sustained.

If you own an affected vehicle, BRP advises you to immediately stop using Speed Limiter Mode until this issue can be addressed through a free recall service at your local authorized Can-Am dealer. The software update involved should take less than an hour to install, according to the company.

Owners can call BRP toll-free at 1-888-272-9222 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Sunday. Additionally, owners can view this and other Can-Am product recalls on the brand's official recalls webpage.
