6D Helmets Has One of the Dopest Looking New Dirt Bike Helmets Around

The ATR-3X combines 6D’s fifth-generation ODS technology, as well as compatibility with the brands revolutionary MAX Goggle. Is this the do-everything dirt helmet?

Last month 6D Helmets introduced the MAX Goggle, which features a shatterproof polycarbonate shield that’s 87% larger than what you’ll find on traditional goggles. Instead of relying on an exposed eye port, constant facial pressure, and foam that becomes saturated by sweat, the scientists at 6D developed FLOAT Fit, a system that transfers the goggle’s structural load into the helmet’s eyeport.

These new goggles look great, and now there’s a helmet designed specifically to work in conjunction with them.

Say hello to the ATR-3X, “a premium off-road helmet engineered for extreme terrain, all-day comfort, and changing conditions,” according to 6D Helmets.

Designed for off-road competitors, dual-sport riders, and ADV enthusiasts alike, the ATR-3X is an expansion of the already versatile ATR-3 platform and features a lightweight 3K carbon composite shell, closeable ventilation, an aerodynamically enhanced visor, and 6D’s fifth-generation Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) system.

What’s more, the ATR-3X includes the MAX Goggle, which provides riders with the coverage of a full-face helmet – meaning less dust and debris on your dirt rides. There’s even an integrated anti-fog lever on the MAX Goggle for ventilation, as well as an Air-Gap system incorporated into the helmet that features “Ram Air Direct-to-Brow Cooling.”

According to the press release, the Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) system is rebuildable, and includes a washable neck and chin curtain. The emergency release cheek pads are also removable, washable, and are made from antibacterial fabric. The ATR-3X also features a magnetic chinstrap clasp that is eject system and drink tube compatible, along with titanium D-rings.

6D says the helmets weigh in at 1400 grams (roughly 3 lbs) for the M/L shell size, exceeds DOT, ECE 22-06, and ACU certification standards, and come with a three-year limited warranty.

What I am seeing is a highly versatile off-road helmet that claims to provide the same coverage as an enclosed ADV helmet, weighs just three pounds, is made from carbon fiber, and has all the bells and whistles we’ve grown accustomed to for a helmet that carries an MSRP of $995.

But would this replace the ADV lid I have on my shelf, or fill in for my off-road only Italian cranium keeper? Curious, I am. But as much as I like versatility and the need to clean and maintain just one helmet, I wonder if I will miss the full-face shield on my adventure helmet, or wish I could swap out goggles without having to purchase a pair of the proprietary MAX Goggle…

The new ATR-3X comes in four colorways – Solid Black, Summit Bronze, Summit Orange and Summit White – and is available now on the 6D Helmets website for $995 (including the MAX Goggle).
