Australian Honda Riders Can Get a Free 6-Year Warranty. Are You Listening, America?

Australian Honda just announced that it's extending its 2-year factory warranty to a 3-year warranty, which can be extended for a further three years if certain criteria are met.

At a time when motorcycle prices are at an all-time high, and manufacturers are seemingly on the cusp of taking more from consumers than ever, in the form of paying to unlock pre-installed features, it's about time we got something in return. Ironically, KTM was the focal brand of the pay-to-play issue, then it became the brand with the best warranty and didn't ask for anything in return from its customers—a gift, so to speak. Now, Honda is jumping on the extended warranty game, but only in Australia.

The Japanese manufacturer announced a six-year motorcycle warranty for on-road models, which, according to Honda Australia Motorcycle and Power Equipment, is the first of its kind in Australia. But, as usual, there's more to the deal than that because it's only for eligible models that meet certain criteria.

The extended coverage applies across Honda’s on-road range, including models such as the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, Africa Twin, Transalp, CB650R, CBR650R, PCX, CB125F, NAVi, and Gold Wing. But don't expect to see the warranty applied to models that are street legal, but essentially off-road competition motorcycles, like the CRF450RL.

Chris Schultz, General Manager – Powersports and Products at Honda Australia, said, “This is a major step forward for Australian riders. We are proud to be the first motorcycle manufacturer in Australia to offer up to six years of warranty coverage for eligible on-road models. This reflects the confidence we have in our engineering and the value we place on long-term customer support.”

For eligible models that were delivered on or after July 1 2025, the standard factory warranty will increase from two to three years. If owners complete all the motorcycle's scheduled services at authorized Honda dealers, they can extend the coverage by up to three more years, which would make the total warranty protection six years. The warranty can only be used on privately owned motorcycles, used for non-commercial purposes.

The warranty has no mileage limit, and there's no additional cost to extend the warranty from three to six years. One of the best things is that the warranty is transferable, so even if you're buying a used Honda in the next few years, you should have a decent warranty. And that's another aspect of what Honda is doing: it's giving its customers more, for free, at a time when we feel like we're receiving less.

This is a huge win for Australian Honda and its customers. By contrast, most on-road Honda motorcycles come with a one-year factory warranty that can be extended to up to six years with the purchase of HondaCare. To be fair, HondaCare isn't crazy expensive, but you usually have to purchase it while your one-year factory warranty is still active, and that tacks on a significant chunk of change when you've just spent a lot. It might be time to reach out to your local Honda dealership and put the pressure on.
