AGV Just Dropped This Limited Edition Pista GP RR Helmet, And I Want It
A helmet created for MotoGP racers is now available from AGV to the public in a crazy new colorway.
I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for a fancy helmet. Not necessarily crazy graphics, but a limited-edition colorway that separates your new lid from an off-the-shelf helmet is a nice touch. And what better a helmet to give a limited-edition color treatment to than AGV’s Pista GP RR, the same helmet that MotoGP racers wear at racetracks around the world.
The Pista GP RR is an exact replica of the AGV helmet worn by racers in the MotoGP World Championship. It is awarded the latest FIM homologation, which certifies the highest possible level of protection, and makes this 100% carbon fiber helmet the perfect choice for track day enthusiasts, racers, and weekend canyon riders alike.
Finished in a “sea green metallic gold” color, the Pista GP RR Acqua was studied in the wind tunnel and tested by AGV’s team of professional riders to “ensure the best aerodynamic penetration and the greatest stability at high speed.”
The limited-edition helmet features a carbon fiber shell that is 5mm thick, as well as an optical Ultravision visor that allows 190° panoramic vision. AGV’s exclusive 360° Adaptive Fit system provides riders with complete customization of the interior, giving riders the possibility to select the ideal thickness for the upper part of the head, nape, and cheeks.
All that carbon fiber isn’t cheap, as evidenced by the MSRP - $1,999. Yeah, you read that right, a two-thousand-dollar helmet. And no, it doesn’t have a HUD or Bluetooth connectivity, integrated turn signals or even a drop-down sun visor. This is a posh piece of kit for a rider who wants to stand out in a crowd of folks who are likely donning their own fancy helmets.
Because let’s be honest, you don’t rock a $2,000 carbon fiber MotoGP-derived race helmet in a limited-edition “Acqua” colorway when you’re riding to work on your Grom. This helmet is aimed directly at the enthusiast who might be in the market for the special series production of Marc Marquez's championship-winning Panigale V4S that was unveiled late last year.
The Pista GP RR Acqua isn’t necessarily new. AGV has offered this same helmet for a number of years now, and has other exclusive colorways available, to include Pantera (think black-and-red leopard print), Iridium (a dark, purple-ish-blue), as well as glossy black, red, and matte carbon finishes.
But this Acqua one with its gold-tinted Ultravision visor is in a league of its own. And while I can’t afford one, that doesn’t mean I don’t want one.
