BMW’s New Accessories Turn the R 12 nineT Into a Flat Track Pretender (and That’s OK)
The R 12 nineT has to be the most customizable bike in BMW’s lineup. And it just got even better with the new Tracker Kit.
BMW Motorrad has always managed to balance tradition with individuality. The German brand built its name on boxer engines and touring machines, but it also knows how to feed the customization bug. Bikes like the R nineT became instant hits because they let riders stamp their own identity on a factory machine.
The R 12 nineT continues that playbook, and now BMW has cooked up a way to make it look like it just rolled off a dirt oval: The Tracker kit.
Flat track racing is gritty, loud, and all about sliding sideways on dirt ovals. The Tracker package takes that raw DNA and cleans it up for street use. You get a shortened tail section in Blackstorm Metallic, complete with an integrated plate holder and multifunctional indicators. There’s a small headlight cowl to give the front end some attitude, side number plates for that race-inspired silhouette, a sticker set, and even a new front wheel cover. It’s everything you’d expect from a purpose-built tracker, minus the dirt and the exhaust fumes.
Here’s the funny bit: chances are slim that anyone buying this kit is actually going to slide their R 12 nineT around a clay oval. Let’s be real, it’s more likely to be spotted parked outside a mountain resort or coffee shop, with the gravel driveway being the closest it ever gets to “flat tracking.”
And that’s OK, because the Tracker kit isn’t really about turning you into Jared Mees. It’s about making your bike look downright killer in photos, whether they’re on your Instagram grid, your garage wall, or on your work desk at your nine-to-five.
The best part is, this is a factory-approved setup. No sketchy Temu parts or questionable fitment. It’s fully homologated, so you don’t need extra paperwork, and of course, BMW recommends having it installed at a dealer for the proper finish. It’ll land in the US in the fourth quarter of 2025, and you can buy the components individually if you just want to cherry-pick the look.

At the end of the day, the Tracker kit doesn’t make the R 12 nineT faster, but it definitely makes it cooler. It connects a road-going boxer to a slice of American racing heritage, while giving owners exactly what they really want: a bike that looks mean, feels unique, and racks up likes every time it shows up in your feed.
Because for some, that’s exactly what the moto lifestyle is all about. And hey, there’s really nothing wrong with that.
