Listen to Honda's Electric Supercharged V3 Motorcycle Engine For the First Time
Honda's been building anticipation for its electrically supercharged V3 engine concept since EICMA 2024, and is that a sweet intake whine you hear at the end of this video?
Teaser videos can go one of three ways. In worst-case scenarios, they either a) fail to engage you and get you excited about a thing, or b) they show you way too much (see many modern movie trailers that give away way too much).
It's the third and most ideal way that seems to be the rarest. Luckily, if you put your best headphones on before you view Honda's V3 Engine Concept teaser video, I think you'll agree that they've done what they set out to do here: Build more than enough excitement and anticipation.
That's not a request, BTW. Put headphones on and have them turned up before you start watching this video. Otherwise, you won't get the full effect. It's under a minute long, so please give it your undivided attention for the entire 50 seconds for best results.
What will you see and hear? Without giving too much away (a personal pet peeve of mine), you get small glimpses of things here and there throughout the video, of the type where you might spot something new to draw your attention each time you watch it. There are strategically placed censor blocks in some of the test bench footage, but they do a good job of piquing your interest if you're the type of person who's watching this video in the first place, I think.
But really, the reason I'm telling you to watch this very short video is the last 12 seconds or so. That's when, more than watching, you'll want to crank up the volume on those headphones I told you that you need to wear, because it sounds an awful lot like you're getting to hear an intake whine of that supercharger 'electric compressor' that Honda says is a key and integral part of this completely new engine design.
Give it a watch and a listen and see what you think. Then tell me, are you properly excited for when Honda finally wheels this thing out inside an actual motorcycle for the first time? What are you hoping for out of that bike, anyway? Let me know in the comments.
