One-Of-One Yamaha TMAX XX Will Change the Way You Think About Scooters

Custom motorcycles are cool for a whole number of reasons. For one, they’re all about self-expression—rolling pieces of art that blend craftsmanship, performance, and attitude. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a café racer crafted from a Triumph Thruxton, a retro-inspired roadster like the Royal Enfield Interceptor, or a high-performance naked bike decked out with go-fast bolt-ons, custom builds push the boundaries of style and engineering.

But what about scooters? Sure, custom scooters exist, but I’m sure you’ve never seen one quite like this.

Enter Ortolani Customs, a custom workshop based in France. The folks over at Ortolani wanted to push the boundaries of what scooters are capable of. And I think they did just that, at least from a styling perspective. They recently showcased a jaw-dropping take on the 2024 Yamaha TMAX Tech MAX. Dubbed the TMAX XX, this one-of-one machine isn’t just a lightly modified scooter—it’s a full-blown, track-inspired scooter that’s so wild, even Yamaha Motor itself shared it on its official Facebook page.

The first thing that grabs your attention is the aggressive new bodywork, of which a huge chunk was custom-made just for the build. Ortolani fabricated a custom set of aluminum front fairings, giving the TMAX a wider, more muscular and menacing stance. At the rear, a NASCAR-inspired spoiler adds some serious race-bike attitude—although it’s obviously more for show than anything else. The maxi-scooter gets yellow-tinted headlights, a redesigned tail light, and rear wings from BCD Design. Even the tires feature NASCAR-style decals, making it look like it’s perfectly at home on a race track.

Beyond aesthetics, this build gets some serious performance-focused upgrades. The stock wheels are gone, replaced with a set of 17-inch Yamaha MT-09 wheels, complete with custom-machined spacers and an extended chain pass. The controls have been upgraded, too, with Puig mass-carved aluminum levers, while Rizoma Stealth mirrors add a premium touch, all while keeping things street-legal.

The seat from NMB Design is finished in what looks like a mix of leather and suede upholstery with hexagonal stitching, land ooks thoroughly premium, too. Tying it all together is a custom paint job and a Termignoni Black/Carbon exhaust system, which follows the original routing but adds a more aggressive look and sound.

Scooters, especially maxi-scooters, aren’t usually associated with high-performance builds. But this TMAX is an exception—it’s aggressive, purposeful, and undeniably badass. The question is: would you ride it? Maybe even take it to a track day just for fun? One thing’s for sure—this build takes an already solid maxi-scooter and takes it to a whole new level.
