Yamaha Unveils Its All-New YZ250F Dirt Bike. And It Comes With Special Edition Paint Job

After collecting both the West and East Supercross 250cc Championships with the brand's YZ250F, Yamaha is releasing it to the masses. Celebrates as you'd like.

Haiden Deegan and Cole Davies were dominant in the 250cc class during this year’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. Both riders were piloting the Yamaha YZ250F, a bike that not only propelled Deegan and Davies to become the current West and East Supercross champions but is now being made available to riders around the world.

The 2027 YZ250F is all-new and saw significant changes that will define the middleweight off-road category for years to come. Both the engine and chassis are new, with the motor being redesigned to deliver a linear engine response with more power and torque through the rpm range.

These changes have raised the rev limit by 700 rpm from the previous model, which was achieved in part with the adoption of a rocker arm with finger follower system derived from Yamaha’s SuperSport YZF-R1, and intake refinements that allow for increased airflow and higher revs.

There’s also an all-new hydraulic clutch design that replaces the coil springs used on the previous model with a new disc spring and integrates the primary gear and basket into a single steel unit. According to Yamaha, “the result is a more compact, lightweight and durable assembly which yields smoother, more consistent engagement, requiring less effort while eliminating the need for on-track adjustments.”

Fuel is fed to the motor through a 44mm Mikuni throttle body, and although the engine is breathing better than before, it still meets the FIM/AMA regulations and is noise-compliant.

As mentioned, the chassis of the YZ50F is new as well, and utilizes the same advanced aluminum bilateral beam frame found on the YZ450F. There’s a new KYB rear shock and a fully adjustable Speed Sensitive System KYB coil spring-type fork that’s been tuned specifically for the YZ250F and its new frame. The updated rear shock also has a new hand-operated low-speed compression clicker for simplified trackside adjustments.

Yamaha also managed to reduce the size and weight of the rear braking system, which they say offers “a lightweight compact design that delivers improved control with a linear buildup of stopping power.” Apparently, the rear brake caliper, master cylinder and rear disc were all reduced in size, as well as additional changes to the brake line material and disc rotor bolts to reduce un-sprung weight.

All these changes have clearly helped, as evidenced by Deegan and Davies’ success in the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series. And while you might not be the Danger Boy, you can certainly look the part, as the 2027 YZ250F will be sold wearing a “Monster Energy Edition” livery ($9,299 MSRP) to pay homage to the success of Deegan and Davies. If neon green isn’t your flavor, the YZ250F will also be available in Team Yamaha Blue ($9,099 MSRP) starting this September.
