KTM Just Poached Another BMW Motorcycle Exec To Fix Its Rocky Ship

After luring one BMW Motorrad executive over a few months ago to help right the ship, KTM has poached another BMW man, Christof Lischka, to become the brand's new CTO.

KTM's world has been one of shore-eroding waves in the last two years, as the company has faced financial uncertainty that many believed would spell the Austrian motorcycling company's doom. That, however, didn't happen, although only by a narrow margin. KTM, for the most part, is now in the secure hands of its new owners, Bajaj, and the company has been making moves to right the ship. 

As such, mounting new-old inventory has been reduced, production is back on schedule, motorcycles are debuting, staffs are stabilizing, and apart from a Dieselgate-like scandal brewing in Europe over the brand's enduro models, the waves have mostly calmed down. Part of that stabilization, however, is due to Bajaj and KTM securing new executive leadership, with the brand recently poaching BMW's Stephan Reiff to become KTM's new Chief Commercial Officer. 

And that's a role KTM desperately needs to overcome a host of hurdles it threw in front of itself in recent years. But KTM wasn't done with poaching Bavarian C-suites, as it's taken another BMW man to help lead the company's technology and product development. 

"As part of its strategic realignment, KTM AG is strengthening its Executive Board with another key appointment: Christof Lischka will assume the position of Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO) of KTM AG as of October 1, 2026," KTM's press release starts, adding, "He will take full responsibility for vehicle development, aiming to carry the technological leadership of the KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas brands into future generations of vehicles while also guiding the evolution of the product portfolio and ensuring the highest standards of product quality."

Lischka makes a whole lot of sense to have on your team, as his work at BMW spans nearly three decades, helping craft, shape, and hone the brand's motorcycles since his hiring. He's not only worked in development and motorcycle lineup strategy, but also had roles overseeing things like dynamics, chassis development, tech, and even brakes. But more than that, Lischka has overseen BMW's lineup for the last few years, helping the brand navigate the ups and downs of the market, and the whims and wants of the consumers, which has led the brand to record profits.

And that, folks, is something KTM desperately needs right now more than ever, as the current lineup is heavy on expensive models, and light on things people are actually buying. 

"KTM is a brand where technology, innovation, motorsport, and emotion are closely intertwined," says Lischka after his hiring, adding, "That is exactly what makes this role particularly exiting for me. My ambition is to work with the teams in Mattighofen to develop products that are technologically advanced, perform well on and off the road, and inspire our customers every day."
