Video Review: I Tested The Triumph Thruxton 400 and Tracker 400 Motorcycles
At long last, Triumph brought gorgeous Thruxton styling to a 400cc bike. Small displacement fans, rejoice! But is it or the Tracker 400 your huckleberry? Find out!
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is, to my eyes, one of the biggest head-turners of the year. I know that styling is highly subjective, but if the Thruxton's looks are your jam, that silhouette is tough to beat. Perhaps its only true rival is what happens when you get to see it in color, in daylight, sparkling underneath the sun with miles of curvy roads stretched ahead of you.
Not long ago, I was able to test both the Triumph Thruxton 400 and the Tracker 400 back to back, riding the same roads, so I could observe both the similarities and differences in riding experiences between them. While you might think that it's a simple matter of ergonomics and naked bike vs. full-fairing, there's more to it than just that.
While the Thruxton 400 is a truly beautiful epitomization of the cafe racer category (and thankfully made with shorter folks like myself in mind), it's the Tracker 400 that was a bigger surprise to me when the day was done. Perhaps it shouldn't have been; there's probably no universe in which a bike that has wider handlebars and has you sit in a more upright stance will be less inviting than origami-folding yourself into the cockpit of a cafe racer. But still, it was.
Which one is for you? Well, that all depends on what you're looking for. There's not a bad choice here, except if you count someone making the choice to not bring the red Thruxton colorway to the North American market for 2026.
My long-form written reviews are also up and available (and linked above) if you'd prefer to read more in-depth discussions of my experiences with and impressions of both bikes. If you have any questions about either the Thruxton 400 or the Tracker 400, feel free to ask away in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them!
