You Can Knit Your Own Yamaha Niken

There's good news if you can't wait to buy the three-wheeled Yamaha Niken. Yamaha has provided plans to create your own, at least if you're handy with knitting needles.

Yamaha calls this an amigurumi, which is a crocheted or knitted stuffed yarn creature. (I had to look that up.) Instead of a Pokémon, someone at Yamaha with way too much time on their hands has created this unique project that lets you create your own Niken with nothing more than yarn and the provided pattern. The website gives you the colors you will need to match Yamaha's color scheme, or you can go crazy with your own colors to customize your ride. There are step-by-step instructions, as well as a how-to video.

Personally, I've never picked up knitting needles in my life. I hate to stereotype, but nearly all of the knitters I know are women, so a craft project like this is a unique way of indirectly marketing to them. To Yamaha's credit, though, there are absolutely no references to gender in any of the knitted Niken materials, so don't feel like less of a man if you want to grab some needles and whip up your own sweet three-wheeled ride.

If knitting isn't your thing, don't worry. Yamaha has also provided plans to create a Niken by needle felting. This art form is even more foreign to me than knitting, but both versions of the Niken look pretty darn cool. The needle felt version even shows the tread of the tires, it's so detailed.

Either of these could make a fun holiday present for your favorite motorcyclist. It's a whole lot better than the biker babe wine bottle holder we found, and far less tacky. Pretty much anything is, actually.
