The Brand Behind America’s Most Roasted EV Car Just Dropped 3 New Scooters

VinFast is betting that battery swapping, low running costs, and sporty styling can win over Indonesia’s massive scooter market.

VinFast just went full throttle in Indonesia, dropping an early booking program for three battery-swapping e-scooters: the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper. Forget waiting months for deliveries. Buyers can reserve one online or through VinFast’s hotline with a 1 million IDR deposit, or about $56 USD. Early birds also get a 1.6 million IDR discount, which works out to around $90 USD. Deliveries are expected to start in June 2026.

Pricing is surprisingly aggressive, too. The Evo starts at 18.98 million IDR, or roughly $1,070 USD, with the battery subscription model. The Feliz II comes in at 20.1 million IDR, or about $1,130 USD. Meanwhile, the Viper starts at 24.41 million IDR, translating to around $1,375 USD. Want the scooters with batteries included instead of subscribing? The Evo jumps to around $1,480 USD, the Feliz II lands at roughly $1,540 USD, and the Viper climbs to about $1,785 USD.

All three scooters use a 5.2-kW BLDC in-wheel motor, topping out between 50 and 56 miles per hour depending on the model. That’s more than enough for dense urban traffic and daily commuting chaos. The Evo maxes out at 50 mph, while the Viper and Feliz II push up to 56 mph.

Range is where VinFast is trying to flex hardest. Each scooter carries dual 1.5-kWh LFP batteries tucked under the seat, designed to be swapped or charged conventionally at home or public stations. VinFast claims up to 93 miles of range for the Evo and around 90 miles for the Viper and Feliz II under standard riding conditions. For urban commuters, that’s substantial.

Battery swapping is clearly the centerpiece of the whole strategy. Swaps cost just 6,000 IDR per battery, which is roughly 34 cents USD. Riders can also subscribe to batteries for 84,000 IDR per month per battery, or about $4.70 USD monthly. VinFast sweetens the deal further with one year of free battery swaps at V-Green swap stations, capped at 20 swaps per month per scooter.

The VinFast Viper is easily the flashiest of the bunch. This one’s aimed squarely at younger riders who want sporty styling and tech-heavy features. It gets a TFT display, projector headlights, dual rear shocks with piggyback reservoirs, and a Smart Key system with remote tracking, remote locking, and anti-theft functionality. It’s basically VinFast trying to prove electric scooters don’t have to look boring or disposable.

Meanwhile, the VinFast Evo and VinFast Feliz II lean harder into practicality. They still use the same swappable dual-battery layout, but focus more on urban usability, storage optimization, and simple daily transportation.

But the real story here isn’t just the scooters. It’s the fact that VinFast is still here at all.

A few years ago, the company got absolutely roasted in the US after launching the VF 8 electric crossover that critics labeled among the worst-reviewed new vehicles on sale. A lot of people expected VinFast to disappear entirely. Instead, the Vietnamese company doubled down. It kept expanding. It kept building infrastructure. And now it’s becoming a far more recognizable name across Asia, especially in the EV space.

That’s what makes this Indonesia push interesting. VinFast isn’t entering the market halfway. It’s building an entire electrified mobility ecosystem around itself. Through partnerships with V-Green and GSM, the company is deploying swap stations, charging stations, electric taxis, scooters, cars, buses, and e-bikes across multiple Asian markets simultaneously.

What do you think?

Indonesia just happens to be the perfect battlefield for that strategy. It’s one of the biggest scooter markets on Earth, and government support for electrification is accelerating fast. If VinFast can establish itself here, it suddenly becomes much harder to dismiss the brand as just another struggling startup.

Whether these scooters ever make it to America is still anyone’s guess. A few years ago, VinFast hinted that bringing its two-wheelers stateside was part of the long-term plan. Nothing concrete has materialized since then. But while America debates whether VinFast belongs there, the company is busy building momentum in Asia, one swap station and one scooter at a time.
