Watch a Motorcyclist Lead Police On Chase, Until He Runs Out Of Gas
A motorcyclist in Illinois, with a long list of offenses, was arrested after his motorcycle ran out of gas during a police chase.
Here at RideApart, we don't suggest or condone being involved in a police chase. Actually, we think it's an extremely stupid and dangerous thing to do, so much so that when we see a particularly idiotic example, we want to take the time to name and shame that rider. This one comes courtesy of a man in Peoria, Illinois, who was arrested last week.
Police deputies conducted a traffic stop after noticing that the motorcycle had no registration, and that's when the suspect, who's been identified as Donald Shaw, fled. However, Shaw didn't get far as he ran out of gas mid-chase. But that's not even the most ridiculous part of the chase.
As seen in dashcam footage posted on the Peoria County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, Shaw's bike begins to run out of gas as he nears an intersection—you can see him frantically trying to keep the bike running by giving it fistfuls of throttle. But, as it becomes apparent that the motorcycle won't restart, instead of ditching it and running, Shaw tries to pedal away using his feet.
You wouldn't have to be very fit to have caught up to Shaw, which the deputy made swift work of, as you'll see in the video below.
As it turns out, Shaw had plenty of reasons to flee, even beyond the fact that the motorcycle he was riding was stolen. In the end, he was arrested for outstanding felony warrants, fleeing and eluding, possession of drug paraphernalia, on top of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Considering the footage above, it's miraculous that he managed to evade the police for so long while racking up all those offenses.
We've reported on some previous moronic escape attempts by criminals trying to evade capture, but is this the the most idiotic instance you've seen of a motorcyclist trying to flee from police? Let us know in the comments.
