Husqvarna often flies under the radar here in the U.S.; the Swedish-built offroad bikes have what can probably be called a cult following here in the States. But the brand may be looking to make inroads in the road bike world, thanks to some new street-focused Husky models revealed at EICMA.
HUSQVARNA 701 SUPERMOTO
The 701 Supermoto is the one we’re most excited about, as it appears to be a done deal, ready for mass production. This isn’t some dual-sport with street tires slapped on; the engineers at Husky have made an honest-to-God street bike, with features that even set it above its competitors. The 701 Supermoto’s engine will produce a city-friendly 67hp.
In addition, the bike will feature ABS and traction control as well as a ride-by-wire throttle system and APTC slipper clutch. No word on price yet, but Husqvarna says that the bike will be on dealers’ floors in the fall of 2015.
The 401 Vitpilen – please hold your “it sounds like an Ikea product” remarks – is one of two concept bikes Husqvarna presented. “Vitpilen” is Swedish for “White Arrow," in case you didn't know. It’s both a tribute to and an updated version of Husky’s 1953 Silverpilen and is clearly aimed at the Café crowd. We dig the Steampunk Tron look.

HUSQVARNA 401 SVARTPILEN
The 401 Svartpilen (“Black Arrow”) has more of an upright riding position; less of a racer and more of an urban Scrambler, the model shown at EICMA sported knobby tires and wide handlebars as opposed to the clip-ons found on the Vitpilen.
Both prototypes are powered by the same 400cc water-cooled single, said to produce 43hp. The bikes’ design is the product of a partnership between Husqvarna and the Austria-based design firm Kiska. While there’s been no commitment to mass production, Husqvarna says that they are paying attention to public opinion, and if there’s enough interest the bikes will join the Husky lineup.
