Is Toyota Getting Into Side-By-Sides? This New Concept Sure Looks Promising
While the motorcycle world is going HAM over EICMA, Las Vegas is hosting SEMA 2025 and Toyota just showed off a brave new Scion hybrid side by side concept.
It might be EICMA time over on the motorcycle side of the Internet, but it's also SEMA time in Las Vegas. And so, Toyota decided to resurrect the Scion badge for a new side-by-side (or maybe scide by scide?) concept that it's calling, quite fittingly, the Scion 01 Concept.
Toyota is of course no stranger to off-road driving pursuits, and for this exercise, it's utilized a 300+ horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain from its tried-and-trusted truck lineup. Notably, the use of a hybrid powertrain made it possible for Toyota to offer a special Silent Mode, which allows the driver to go into an all-EV mode so there's no engine noise to distract you when you're out in nature.
It's not clear what the range is in Silent Mode, but perhaps that's not really a top-of-mind concern, since Toyota directly says that this is very much a concept vehicle, and not something available for production or sale.

As such, Toyota also envisions a number of other uses for the Scion 01 Concept, including rock crawling, racing, and more. An FIA-compliant cage has been fitted to this concept, and it's also meant to comply with existing SCORE standards as well. Even if it is just a concept at the moment, it's a clear indicator that Toyota is thinking about ways to expand its presence in the off-road world, in ways that appeal to a broad cross-section of off-road enthusiasts.
If you're at SEMA 2025, which runs from November 4 through 7, 2025 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, you can see the Toyota Scion 01 Concept in person if you like. Would you like to see something like this come to life in the not-too-distant future as a production model? Is the world ready for a Toyota Scion 01 production side-by-side? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
