After Winning a 4-Year Legal Battle Against Another Helmet Maker, the Company is Rebranding
This brand is dominating Europe, so how long before it does the same in the US?
Most of you have probably heard of the motorcycle gear manufacturer, LS2, especially those of you who watch MotoGP, as its helmets have recently made their way onto the premier grid with Fermín Aldeguer. And if you're from Europe, well, LS2 is a staple brand. But it's been quietly fighting a legal battle against another giant helmet manufacturer.
For the past four years, LS2 has been involved in litigation against French gear motorcycle manufacturer, SHARK. Recently, the Spanish Supreme Court dismissed SHARK's appeal, which closed the case for alleged patent infringement and confirmed that LS2's Convert and Valiant helmet models do not infringe patent EP 1 806 986 B1, registered by SHARK in 2005—a patent that's set to expire at the end of the year.
The ruling solidifies LS2's position in design and the validity of its international patent portfolio, particularly regarding its Valiant helmet. The soundness of the brand, as recognized by the European Patent Office, coincides with a period of corporate transformation.
Going forward, Tech Design Team will now officially be named LS2 Motogear Europe SLU. The rebranding is a result of the company's desire to further commit to the European market. Over the past two years, LS2 Motogear Europe SLU has experienced double-digit growth in Europe, and its rebranding should only serve to help those figures going forward.
“The change to LS2 Motogear Europe SLU symbolizes our desire to be increasingly closer to the European customer, adapting to their needs and market developments,” says Giuseppe Porcu, CEO of LS2 in Europe.
LS2 is best known for its helmets, so some people might be shocked to learn that LS2 Motogear Europe SLU offers a complete range of products, including helmets, jackets, pants, gloves, protection, and accessories. You can check out the complete range of LS2 products here.
