In 1990, Carl Fogarty earned his place in Isle of Man history when he rode this Honda Britain RC30 to victory at both the TT’s Formula 1 and Senior races, becoming only the third person to lap the Mountain Course at an average speed over 120mph.
That Senior win took place in rain so hard that most of the racers dropped out rather than ride in it. Standing on the podium, the famously foot-in-mouth Fogarty announced he’d never again race at the Isle. He did, both in 1991 and 1992, the last time setting a lap record which stood for seven years.
This RC30 was later campaigned in what was then clearly called World Superbike, then refurbished in 2007. Now, Bonhams plans to auction it later this month for an estimated $80-110,000.
