2017 Dakar Stage 10 Results
Dakar Stage 10 Results are in and Honda's Joan Barreda is riding his brains out to make a podium finish while leader Sam Sunderland is on cruise control.
Stage 10 of the 2017 Dakar was a 751km journey through Argentina from Chilecito to San Juan. With only two days of competition remaining this is the home stretch for any competitor who is serious about a podium finish, yet alone the win. Monster Energy Honda’s Joan Barreda Bort took the Stage win and made up some time on the frontrunners in the process. Red Bull KTM's Sam Sunderland, the overall race leader, finished 12th, giving up 17-minutes to Barreda as the Honda rider attempts to close what is sure to be an insurmountable gap. Barreda is now in the top five on the same day Honda has filed an appeal of his one hour penalty for refueling in what was determined at the time, to be an illegal area.
Things were looking good for Honda’s Ricky Brabec who was leading the stage before he stopped 12km from the finish line. His bad luck handed Honda’s Michael Metge the stage win only to see it stripped from of what would’ve been his first Dakar stage win and gifting the victory to teammate, Barreda. Check out the video at the bottom of this article for a look at the devastating mud slide that engulfed the Argentinian village of Volcan on the previous day.
