We Just Found Kawasaki's Robot Horse Patent Drawings. They're Full Of Insane Details
The robot horse may wear a saddle, but the rider will have to wear some connected gear to truly become one with their mecha robo horse.
Remember last year when Kawasaki first started sharing information about Corleo, its hydrogen-powered robot horse design? Or later that year, in December, when we learned that Kawasaki intended to put this design into production? That's also when we heard from Team Green that it had off-road mobility intentions with Corleo, which certainly makes sense. Asphalt is kinda hard on the old hooves, you know? Well, maybe not if you're a robot, I guess.
Anyway, at the beginning of 2026, it seems that Kawasaki filed a patent full of design drawings for what certainly appears to be Corleo, which was only first published in August 2026. Besides including the drawings (which are fascinating in their own right), the very lengthy and detailed descriptions of how Corleo is meant to operate are incredible to see spelled out.
So, let's get into it, shall we?
Special Corleo Riding Gear Will Be Required
If you're going to ride Corleo, you're going to need to invest in some special gear. I'm not talking about normal ATGATT; no, I'm talking about some special IMU-imbued clothing that riders will need to fully communicate with Corleo. And truthfully, this may just be something that's included with Corleo (and not sold separately), since you'll apparently need it for Corleo to function.
In any case, there's a lot of time spent in this patent discussing sensors to track a rider's center of gravity over time, including going into whether the rider is leaning left or leaning right, which can communicate to Corleo that the rider would like to turn left or turn right.
Also, Corleo will have on-board comms installed, which just makes me realize that all those years of anime and manga filled with mechs have all been preparing each of us to accept Corleo into our hearts. We're pretty sure that Haruhiko Mikimoto, Hideaki Anno, and Shoji Kawamori probably weren't thinking of Kawasaki at all when they were laying that groundwork, but still.

Modern Robot Horse Comforts
The legs on Corleo will be articulated and will have suspension elements installed to keep the ride comfortable for whoever is sitting in the saddle. It will also be possible for two people to ride on Corleo at the same time, and there will be adjustable footrests provided for both to make things easier. The drawings appear to depict something more similar to footrests on a motorcycle, as opposed to stirrups on a horse saddle, so make of that what you will.
It is a robot horse (and not a living, breathing animal), after all.
Additionally, Corleo will have a handy storage compartment on board, where riders will be able to stash a small amount of personal items if they don't want to carry them in a backpack.
This alone makes it more useful than a ton of modern EV saddle-type scooters, you guys! How nice. (Just imagine pulling up to the grocery store on Corleo! )
Corleo will also have some type of headlight system to both illuminate the path ahead and alert other vehicles, people, and creatures in the area that it is roaming freely. These lights will adapt to other traffic (whether vehicular or sentient) and adapt the light intensity and direction accordingly. If Kawasaki succeeds at this, it will make Corleo more useful than the blindingly bright headlight systems found on many an SUV today (and I, for one, would like to see this succeed very, very much).

Driving Modes
Corleo will apparently have driving modes, which I suppose isn't too surprising. The robot horse will be powered by a combustion engine (probably hydrogen, although the patent seems to leave it open to other methods of combustion as well), and that engine will also generate power for the onboard electronics. It will also have a touch-screen display and grip controls, as you'd expect on a modern motorcycle.
Driving modes will include an automatic driving mode, as well as a "wasteland mode" for rough terrain. (Side note: I know it's the year of the Fire Horse and all, but I wasn't expecting a horse of the apocalypse to look or work quite like Corleo!)
There will also be low and high-speed operations, which will attenuate the speed of Corleo accordingly. Additionally, the suspension between the front and the rear of Corleo may be linked, or it may alternatively have the option to work independently; both options are discussed in the drawing descriptions.
Additionally, there will be an auto-stop feature (as I suppose there must be) included, where all the sensors on board take note of how the rider has positioned themselves. If their hands slip off the grips, for example, or they pull back on the grips (kind of like pulling back on reins, I'd guess), the robot horse will slow and/or come to a complete stop (depending on the forces involved).
There's no discussion about what kinds of speeds Corleo will be capable of going, nor expected range, nor things like weather limitations. Will Corleo be able to operate safely in very hot or cold temperatures, for example? How extreme an off-road situation will Corleo be able to handle? I mean, I'm not expecting Mario Roman to be able to saddle up on a Corleo at a Red Bull Romaniacs in the future, but there's definitely further room for information down the line.
Also, what will something like this cost? Will Corleo only be used by rescue workers in tough situations, like mountainous areas experiencing natural disasters? Or will it be used by some tourism outfits to give an incredibly unique riding experience to tourists in certain areas? Will you be able to lease a Corleo and use it as your daily driver? (Probably not, but I can ask, right?)
I don't know about you, but I definitely want to know more.
