The real challenge is fixing it all to your motorcycle, safely and efficiently. You’ll probably encounter some weather, so taking that into account while packing is a smart thing to do. The way you pack will depend on your luggage setup. Pay close attention to which pieces of your gear very much need to stay dry, and work from there. Dry clothes and sleeping supplies are important. If you have hard, waterproof luggage it’s no big deal. If you have soft luggage you may want to pack a dry bag and put that in the luggage.
Motorcycle Hammock Campsite
When it comes to packing the bike, I tend to batch stuff, because that makes unpacking and setting up easier. My tent, camp chair, and sleeping arrangements are all in the same drybag. I know the tent and cot won’t fit in my luggage, so I put them all together on the pillion seat. This way, it is very easily the first thing I pull off my motorcycle, and then I have a shelter to put everything else into. It’s the last thing I pack and the first thing I pull off. Don't discredit a cot; they are great warm-weather accommodation and pack really small!
Field And Forest Crew
Another great thing to keep in mind is your destination: are you rough camping, are you going to an established campground, or are you attending a rally? All of these destinations have different levels of amenities which will dictate what you’ll pack. I’m currently at an adventure rally at an established campground. I know that the rally hosts will make coffee in the morning for the attendees, which is, arguably, the most important thing to have on any trip. I brought snacks though, just in case. I also have a camp stove that I bring when I knw I’ll have to cook my own food and make my own coffee.
Friends In Camp Chairs
I know I already mentioned it but don’t underestimate the value of the camp chair. Lots of campgrounds have picnic tables, but we tend to use camp chairs even when there are. The chairs are more comfortable, portable, and super packable. When the fire gets too hot you can move your chair backwards, and no matter how many people are there you know you’ll always have a place to sit. Don’t leave it behind!
