A BMW R Nine T pitted against a Morgan Speedster in this video from EVO.
As if there weren’t enough forums, articles, or videos pitting cars against motorcycles, here is a good matchup brought to us by EVO. Instead of bringing two track animals against each other, EVO presents two unlikely BMW powered rivals to Blyton Park to see which one is the better of the two.
The four-wheeled vehicle in question is the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster. The amazing sound being emitted by the Speedster is due to a BMW 4.8-liter V-8 heart pumping out 367 hp and 370 lb-ft. of torque. With a dry weight of approximately 2,400 pounds, the Speedster can get to 62 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds from a standstill. The Speedster is more than capable of giving the bike a run for its money.

Keeping in the theme of BMW-powered vehicles, EVO utilized the BMW R Nine T against the Speedster. Its air and oil cooled flat twin 4-stroke engine produces 110 hp and 88 lb-ft. of torque, which is more then enough to propel its scant weight of 489 pounds to 62 miles per hour in a claimed 3.5 second. Not only does the Nine T have the looks to compete against the Speedster, it also has the power.
The Speedster lets out a grunt that is worth the watch alone. But on the track it’s hindered by the sluggish ZF automatic gearbox and lack of grip.

Bruce Dunn, motorcycle racer and tester, takes a hold of the Nine T and tries to beat the Speedster’s time around the track. Dunn’s complaints emanate around the Nine T’s ground clearance and ABS system. Leaning the bike into a corner results in the constant scraping of a foot peg and the ABS system cutting in early doesn’t allow Dunn to brake when he wants.

As far as matchup goes, this is a good one. Two machines capable of giving drivers plenty of thrills on the road compete outside of their element. I won’t give anything away, but the winner may surprise you. Both vehicles have their strengths and their weaknesses, which become highlighted by the ruthless track.
Either way, the video’s a great way to spend seven minutes of your day and an even better way to mark the end of a workweek.
