Watch This Backcountry Discovery Routes Documentary Teaser
This documentary is going to be fantastic.
Backcountry Discovery Routes is a non-profit organization whose mission is to establish and preserve off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles. In addition to mapping new routes and providing free GPS tracks and advice, BDR has an in-house film company that produces documentaries about the routes it forms and maintains. BDR recently dropped a trailer for its latest project, and it looks awesome.
BDR's latest project is an 820-mile route between Yuma, Arizona, and Benton, California. It promises to show some of the most beautiful scenery the southeast U.S. has to offer across rugged two-track and remote dirt roads. Best of all, this route is rideable through the winter, so snowbirds can scratch their ADV itch.
The film features 4-time Baja 1000 Champion and Dakar Rally Racer Quinn Cody of KTM taking a run on the new Southern California route for the first time. "This route showcases the best backcountry terrain, scenery, and history southern California has to offer," says Cody. "Riders will definitely be challenged in many ways on this route but will have the backcountry motorcycle adventure of a lifetime."
I'm not an off-road rider myself, but this trailer alone makes me want to go buy a cheap adventure bike and hit the trail. The cinematography puts even eveRide to shame, and that's no slam on the off-roading YouTuber. Through canyons, rocky riverbeds, deserts, and the Mojave National Preserve, this route promises to be an epic journey for ADV riders, and judging from the trailer, the documentary seems to reflect that.
Even if I never see the west coast trail myself, I definitely want to see the full-length documentary when it's released January 1, 2019, along with maps, GPS tracks, and travel resources on the BDR website. BDR is also planning a film tour in over 40 cities across the country.
