Photos: 100 years of Benelli
In the spring of 1911, six brothers, acting with the support of their mother, founded a bicycle and motorcycle repair shop called the Benelli Garage. Nine years later, Benelli made its first engine, a 75cc two-stroke that they stuck in a bicycle frame. Just a year after that they made their first motorcycle and a year after that entered the first race. Next year, Benelli will turn 100, here’s a ...

How does Horex’s VR6 engine work?
BMW likes to brag that the 1,600 inline-six in the new K1600s is just 22 inches wide. But the supercharged six-cylinder engine in the Horex VR6 is three inches narrower and puts out more power. It achieves that by using staggering the cylinders in two rows on a single crank and under a single cylinder head. Sorry, Wes, nothing nearly that sordid, though things did get kinda ugly in a Rome clipjoint once when I refused to pay $300 for a demi of cheap champagne, a plate of ladyfingers ...

The Moto3 rulebook
Here it is, the rules that will transform grand prix racing’s smallest class from two-stroke 125s to four-stroke 250s. Other than the obvious two-stroke-racing-dying thing, this appears to be a change for the better. Costs will be controlled through the use of spec components and attainable parts, which should mean better racing, more competition across the field with rider skill, not team budge...

Video: Honda’s EICMA bikes explained
Honda had highs and lows at last weeks EICMA show in Milan. High being the CBR600F, a more practical version of the Hornet that sits somewhere between that and the CBR600RR in the Honda range. Low being the V4 Crosstourer, a “concept” based on Shamu that won’t be going off road even if it looks like it wants to. In the middle somewhere is the VFR800X Crossrunner, a reborn VFR800 apparently e...
