Though freedom tropes might be played out in the motorcycling community at this point, the feeling of autonomy certainly contributes to how much fun one experiences on a bike. For evidence of this, look no further than off-road riding. During the times I’ve ridden my dual sport off-road, I’ve thought to myself, “I couldn’t do this if I was in a car.” It’s that connection to the environment and feeling of independence that adds to the excitement and pleasure of riding.

As a sidenote for riders in California, Utah, and Europe, lane filtering also imparts the same feeling (when done responsibly). Everyone knows that sitting in traffic is the most soul-crushing activity anyone can endure, and motorcycling through the mess can be both practical and fun.
