A couple of days ago, Today Show co-host and gift to the Saturday Night Live writing staff Hoda Kotb caused a bit of an uproar by apparently calling bikers "losers." Many bikers were upset, and took to the Internet to vent their frustrations. But did she have a point? Here at RideApart, we strive to be objective journalists, so I took it upon myself to dig into the story.
First, it's not entirely clear that Kotb actually flat-out called all of us who ride motorcycles losers. Here's a YouTube clip of what she actually said.
She seems to be zeroing in on a certain sub-group of bikers, namely the Harley/cruiser type. Trafficking in on easy stereotypes is wrong, and though riders may disagree on their choice of ride and attire, we still all agree that two wheels are better than four. Insult one group of riders and you insult us all.
Still, I felt like I was a bit too close to the source matter to be objective. Further investigation into Ms. Kotb's claim was needed. After conducting some research, I fear Ms. Kotb may be right. Here's the photographic evidence supporting her claim.

The gentleman below clearly has issues. He appears tired, as if he's been staying up late talking to people for years on end. And look at that old bike he's riding! He probably can't afford a new motorcycle, let alone a car.
Look at this guy. Not only does he ride a motorcycle, he's one of those Star Wars cosplay dorks. Bet this dude hasn't ridden a bike past the end of his mom's driveway.

I kind of feel bad for this poor schmo. Looks like he's got a backrest and he's hoping for a passenger. Good luck finding a gal to ride with you, buddy.
She might be the biggest loser here.
This guy should perhaps spend less time on the bike and more time at the gym.

To her credit, Hoda DID issue an apology - and in doing so, she pointed out that many bikers give freely and generously to their communities and charities. So maybe we're not all losers after all. Well...
