What normally functions as a practice putting green at the entrance of The Lodge (the main club house of Pebble Beach), the Concept Lawn hosts the years most exciting concept vehicle manufactures have debuted around the world. It's your first site entering the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and the first time we laid eyes on our BOW, the 2016 Midual Type 1.

Midual, a company many thought disappeared into the bermuda triangle, is back and brought the exquisite Type 1 to the Concept Lawn this year. We poured over it's hand-crafted details and walked away with a host of new spec info that's bound to excite the most diehard rider. Although the price rivals that of a well equipped Porsche 911 Turbo S–just saying.

The Midual Type 1

The Midual Type 1 utilizes a transverse flat-twin engine design, straight out of a BMW, with the cylinders laying inside the frame at a 25° downward angle. Opposed to the familiar protruding BMW mounting method. Midual claims the arrangement offers a lower center of gravity while reducing longitudinal inertia.

While the original 900 concept had a 94mm bore and 63mm stroke, the Type 1 has a 100mm cylinder bore with a 66mm stroke, creating a 1036cc displacement. The liquid-cooled, fuel-injected DOHC four-valve-per-cylinder engine produces 74 ft-lb. of torque at 5300rpm and 106 hp at 8000 rpm. It relines at 8,800 rpm.

Up front, 43mm Ohlins FGRT forks offer 120mm of travel. Midual says the rake is adjustable from  24 to 25 degrees, with a 100mm trail when the rake is set to 24.5 degrees. The swingarm is suspened by a cantilevered Ohlins TTX36 rear shock which also offers 120 mm of travel.

Midual wrapped the classic, albeit capable, 17-inch wire-spoke wheels in Michelin tires, with a 120/70 tire up front and a 180/55 at the rear.

Midual Type 1 Price

Midual has been testing its Type 1 prototype since the summer of 2013, but the finished product still won’t be ready until sometime in 2016. The company plans to produce a very limited run of 35, but only in Europe, at the moment. If you fancy one for yourself, they are accepting pre-orders… at a hefty price. Roughly €140,000  or $187,066 give or take the fluctuating Euro market. Being a boutique brand, Midual is graciously offering a four-year warranty and maintenance plan which includes the cost of picking up the motorcycle and shipping it to and from the factory for service. A classy touch if you ask us.
