BMW will be launching a helmet (not for the US), leathers, boots and gloves combo to accompany the 2010 BMW S1000RR. Lots more than just unique colors on existing gear, all the BMW DoubleR items are tougher, lighter or fancier than before, while the price is described as "affordable."

Helmet

Based on BMW's Sport helmet, the DoubleR adds a carbon fiber shell and

a unique rear spoiler that should reduce lift and increase stability.

The most successful graphics of any of these items and there's also a

metallic front vent cover. The standard Sport helmet weighs in at 1380g

(medium), so we'd expect the Double R to be in the ballpark of

1200-1280g (medium. BMW doesn't sell its motorcycle helmets in the US

because ya'll are a bunch of litigious yokels.

Leathers

1mm thick kangaroo skin ensures high strength, good abrasion resistance

and light weight. Again, restrained, classy graphics. We dig the BMW

roundels on the shoulders and hump. Expect CE armor throughout,

although there's no mention of an included back protector.

Gloves

These appear to be a unique item in the BMW range. There's extensive

use of carbon and a very high cuff. We're not a fan of the repeating

"BMW Motorrad" logo on the carbon cuff plate.

Boots

These are essentially the BMW Sport boots with bespoke graphics, which

isn't necessarily a bad thing. Again, not a fan of the repeating "BMW

Motorrad" logos, but there's built-in protection to keep your ankle

from over flexing and even to prevent injury to your metatarsals

through an impact forcing your legs down into your heels.

No official word on prices, but the DoubleR gear should reach BMW showrooms early next year, along with the S1000RR. You better make sure you pony up the extra $750 for the red, white and blue bike, this gear would look awful on the baby vomit green version.
