Now here’s the kind of marketing we can get behind. Like the BMW Unstoppable campaign, the GS Trophy promotes the aspirational adventure capability of the BMW GS-series. Also like Unstoppable, the Trophy is all about participation, except this time that means racing in a nine-day rally in Tunisia and the chances to take part are extremely limited.
>Only three riders each from Germany, England, France, Italy, Japan and the US will make the cut and the bad new is, registration for those slots is already closed. Participants will be chosen based on riding, mechanical and writing abilities — they’ll be expected to record their adventures on a dedicated website — and then BMW will take care of the rest, prepping them for the rally and flying them to Tunisia.

BMW describe the Trophy as, “A lengthy and challenging ride in the rugged country-side of Tunisia both on and off-road on new F 800 GS bikes that have been adapted by Touratech. It will include numerous tests in individual riding skills and group teamwork to overcome natural and man-made obstacles in the course of the ride.” Those tests will include low-speed dexterity and enduro skills in dirt sand and water and will require teamwork in addition to riding ability. And the best thing is: there’s no sign of involvement by either Ewan McGregor or Charley Boorman.

The GS Trophy — Tunisia will run from October 15-24, 2008.
