New boots, gloves, jackets and suits in the new Alpinestars 2014 Street Collection.
Alpinestars dropped their New-for-2014 Street Collection with 40 new products. That’s a lot! We perused their impressive offerings and here are some of the highlights worth mentioning.
The Tech 7 was already a great motocross boot, coming in a little more comfortable than the flagship Tech 10, but still with great protection. Thanks to the addition of a more durable, tractive and supportive sole (so important for comfort on long off-road rides), the Tech 7 Enduro is going to bring all those features to dual-sport and adventure riding, too. They’re not waterproof, but if you want a huge amount of protection combined with excellent standing comfort, these will be a great option.
Alpinestars Masai Glove — $75
How cool are these? The Masai’s are a well-ventilated, lightweight, short cuff street or dual-sport glove with hard protection on the knuckles and Ulna, goatskin palms and soft padding on the heel of the palm. Outright safety is a little compromised over Alpinestars’ more race-derived gauntlets, but comfort will be excellent, with a tight, stretchy fit. As an added bonus, touchscreen conducive panels are included on the thumb and forefinger so you can operate your smartphone or GPS on the go.
When it comes to suits and jackets, Alpinestars has two tiers of quality. This GP-Pro two-piece hails from the higher of the two. It’ll keep you extremely safe in a crash thanks to GP-level armor and its 1.3mm leather should last through multiple offs. Styling is sporty, but understated and there’s a heavy use of flex material across the underside of the arms and around the shoulders for excellent freedom of movement. A versatile two-piece like this should be a staple in any sport rider’s wardrobe.
Alpinestars is really starting to deliver some excellent women’s gear. This affordable textile two-piece features low-key looks, but solid functionality in the form of a removable thermal liner, waterproof membrane and zip-open vents for riding in hot weather. This would work great for commuters, touring or adventure riding, all cut in a shape and fit that’s flattering to the female figure.
The SMX-6 boots already hit a sweet spot in terms of price-to-performance. Now they’re attracting a whole new rider, making the boot available in women’s sizes this year. The boot has a proven to be a very protective sport riding boot with a hinge to control ankle flex and provide ankle impact protection, as well as hard armor for the shin, heel and toe. The SMX-6 is great for sport riding, touring or even commuting, making it one of the most versatile and comfortable boots out there.
The new “Black Shadow” range combines Alpinestars sport functionality, with understated good looks. The SMX Plus is Astars’ 2nd tier sport boot, with excellent protection, comfort and feel and complete with the firm’s new Multi-Link Control System around the ankle. A great boot that now won’t look out of place with jeans or plain black leathers.
