This weekend is going to be awesome. The FIM Superbike World Championship races will be at Laguna Seca and they will be accompanied by MotoAmerica. To start this epic weekend, RideApart staff members decided to take advantage of the Northern California scenery and headed out to explore the terrain the area offers to moto riders.

We started off at Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd., which is right off Highway 35. Alice's is known as a popular pit stop for riders, and they are more than happy to host motorcycles of all shapes and sizes. After making sure we and our bikes were well-hydrated, we headed off down Hwy 35 with the intention of exploring Highway 9 to check out Big Basin and the Redwoods. We unfortunately missed the turn and continued on 35 until we traveled onto a side road.

From there, we ran into a charming gentlemen named Kevin from Johannesburg, South Africa. He seemed lost—and he was—and asked if we were on Summit Rd. We unfortunately were not, told him the best way we knew how to get there, and we were all off again. We explored more of the roads in Santa Cruz county and ended up in a tiny town called Soquel. We spotted a narrow and twisty path to take us to the top of the mountains that (not surprisingly) had an incredible view.

From there were off to Monterey, but made sure to make a stop at Moss Landing off Highway 1. This is where we were able to spot sea otters just hanging out on their backs, enjoying the day.

Those dark spots are the otters.

We also ran into Kevin from Johannesburg again. It was his lucky day as we had a spare golden pass to the WSBK races and gave it to him. He was eternally grateful and we were glad to make his trip a bit better.

Once we arrived to Monterey, we picked up our credentials and headed to the track. It was towards the end of the day and we caught the tail-end of the MotoAmerica practices. We were then told there would be a track walk afterward practices were finished. Once we hit the track, we saw Chaz Davies, who was cool enough to participate in the walk and talk a bit about Laguna Seca.

All in all, it was a wonderful day to kick off our weekend here at WSBK. Below is a sneak peek of this morning's MotoAmerica Qualifying race and WSBK free practice 3. Stay tuned. We have more to report in another post.
