Coker Tire Offers Glimpse Behind Scenes of Born Free 8

The Born Free custom bike show is fast growing to be one of the world’s largest and best-loved such events. This video from Coker Tire Co. offers a background glimpse at some of the builders who attended this year’s Born Free 8.

Obviously, you can expect a little bit of shilling for Coker, which specializes in supplying and manufacturing vintage tires and wheels for motorcycles and cars. But the video also offers a look at five different custom builders and their inspirations.

The video features Aki Sakamoto of Hogkillers, Bryan Thompson of Thompson's Cycles, Caleb Owens of Cro Customs, Go Takamine of Brat Style, and Matt Walksler of Period Modified. Each talks about what inspired them to become custom builders and what fuels their decision making when coming up with ideas for a new build.

“When I was really young, my brothers were really into old Harleys, old bikes,” said Caleb Owens. “Primarily because we didn’t have enough money for new bikes.”

Born Free takes place each year at the Oak Canyon Ranch in Southern California. The show is open to all makes and models and is laid back with voluntary registration and a handful of awards and prizes. However, the builder voted “Best In Show” gets a trip for themselves and their motorcycle to the Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom show in Yokohama, Japan.
